Disney world rope drop time
Big news for anyone looking to rope drop their next Disney World trip!
Disney just quietly changed how rope drop works in Magic Kingdom, and we have the details!
Disney Resort guests using Early Entry are no longer being held in the front of the park but are being allowed to wait in line for their chosen attraction.
Early Entry is a 30-minute time period before the parks open, during which guests staying at Disney Resorts (or some Good Neighbor Hotels) get to enter the parks before other guests and catch a few attractions before they’re officially open to the public.
For Magic Kingdom, Early Entry is usually at 8:30 AM, with the park opening at 9 AM. Early Entry guests get to ride attractions in Fantasyland and Tomorrowland (with the exception of TRON), with the other areas of the park still closed. This is a great way to get on one or two popular rides without waiting.
While Early Entry started at 8:30 AM this morning, guests were able to get in line for their chosen attraction before It officially started. Previously, guests were held on the bridges before entering the land and allowed to enter the queues once it officially started. This can be a huge advan
Being at Magic Kingdom for Rope Drop is important if you want to get a leader start on the crowds that will arrive later in the day. The following tips will help you make the most of Rope Drop at Magic Kingdom.
Arriving at the Magic Kingdom 30–60 minutes before official opening ensures the shortest possible waits for rides. Off-site guests, who aren’t eligible for Early Theme Park Entry, should arrive 30 minutes before official opening on all days.
Once in the park, you’ll find most of the rides in Fantasyland and Tomorrowland running. Rides in Adventureland, Frontierland, and Liberty Square may start operations closer to the park’s official opening time.
Main Street’s larger shops, such as the Emporium, will be open when you’re admitted into the park, in case you need sunscreen, ponchos, or aspirin. The Main Street Bakery (Starbucks) will also be open for coffee and breakfast items.
Upon entering the park, most guests top for one of the headliner attractions: Tron Lightcycle Run in Tomorrowland and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train in Fantasyland get the biggest crowds, followed by Cosmos Mountain in Tomorrowland, with Great Thunder Mountain Railroad in Frontierland in third plac

First, Magic Kingdom has more rides than all the other parks in Disney World, so you’ll need more time there. But, also, rope drop could get you a ride on a popular ride with a shorter wait — and all you have to do is get up a little earlier and be at the park when it opens. However, if you rope drop Magic Kingdom NOW, you might find that it’s changed. Let’s talk about how it’s different.
So what IS rope dropping? Rope dropping refers to the actual rope that Cast Members use to close off lands when you’re allowed into Magic Kingdom before it officially opens (which usually happens about 30 minutes before the official opening time). Although you’re allowed to visit shops and grab food and snacks on Main Street, U.S.A., you do not have access to the park until official opening, which right now is at 9 AM. Therefore, you must wait for the rope to Tomorrowland and Fantasyland to “drop” at exactly 9 AM. Then you can start getting in line for rides.

Rope dropping worth it?
It's all a matter of balance. I assume you're talking about the early entry rope drop, and not the one for the general public. Now that early entry is only 30 minutes, there's very little advantage if your aim is to do a highly popular attraction like 7DMT, Slinky, Frozen, or Flight of Passage, unless you are willing to be among the first to arrive. Either you have to be at the front of the pre-rope drop line for early entry (that is, arrive at least 60 minutes prior to the beginning of early entry). If you opt to show up later in the morning after the park is open to all guests, you'll probably have to wait an extra 45-70 minutes in the queue for the same attraction, and will be getting a later start in the day -- BUT you'll be "saving" the extra 60 minutes you'd have been waiting to rope drop in the first place, and the stress of trying to speed-walk to the desired attraction without getting passed by too many people. (*If you're an off-site guest, you're going to have that longer line no matter when you show up.)
So it really comes down to, would you rather wait an extra hour early in the morning (an
