Best umbrella for disney world

Vacationing at Disney Parks, as a family, is magical, no matter which coast you pick. Whether you’re at Disneyland or Walt Disney World, parents love to bring a lightweight stroller to navigate the parks with a baby or young child. After reviewing many brands, and three kids later, I’m sharing my favorite COVERED umbrella stroller for Disney. Plus, all of different models (versions) they make of it – so you can pick a price point that works for you.

Ever since Disney Parks first opened, with Disneyland in 1955, parents have been hunting down the best strollers for their vacation. The right stroller can keep your child comfortable, is light weight and make park navigation so much easier. The wrong stroller is simply a headache that will be pain in your day.

I’ve toured the parks with TONS of stroller models and the slightest nuances can really put a damper on your day. A squeaky wheel or being sent away at the parks gates, because you’ve got the wrong stroller size, will be a huge vacation frustration.

Why You Need An Umbrella Stroller For Disney

Punishing weather is a fact of life at Disney World.

Part of the reason Disney World was built in Florida in the first place was because of the area’s subtropical climate, which featured temperatures that would allow it to stay open year-round. However, those temperatures also come with both a lot of rain and blistering sunlight, as anyone who has visited the resort can attest. That all makes packing for the weather extremely important.

With packing for the rain and heat in mind, we recently tried out a Pocket Umbrellafrom Amazon during a sunny day in Disney World.

Amazon describes the umbrella, which features a 41-inch arc and a 37-inch diameter, as “perfect for concealing in your purse or bag when you’re on the go! Folds to an ultra-compact 7 inches, makes the umbrella great for travel, as this super lightweight umbrella collapses into a compact 7 inches.”

So it is going to rain on you at some point at DW.

What is best a small compact umbrella or a poncho.

Poncho when folded takes less space. But after using it , may not pack as small.
Some of the compact umbrellas are small but bigger than a poncho. After use it is easy to fold up quicker than trying to fold that poncho.

What is everyone’s vote?

Definitely a poncho for WDW. An umbrella is as useful as wearing shoes on your hands in Florida rain.

Ponchos… The rain can blow in and you are fighting the wind. Plus, umbrellas are intrusive to the people around you. Also, if it’s a really rainy day you can just wear the poncho all day without having to hold your arm up in the air constantly.

Ponchos… we get the cheap disposable kind and just throw them away when done.

Poncho.

Anyone who has had to navigate crowded city sidewalks in the rain would not even hesitate to say poncho.

So I am kind of getting the hint that ponchos are definitely the way to go. It was just a thought I had.

Are Umbrellas Allowed at Disney World? (and the Best Compact Journey Umbrellas)

I was doing some online shopping for a new umbrella to keep in my vehicle, because mine somehow disappeared recently. (I think it has something to do with one of my kids.)

As I was looking for an umbrella, it got me wondering if using an umbrella on rainy days at Disney World was something people ever do.

Well.

It turns out that "umbrellas vs. ponchos at Disney World" can be a rather heated debate.

There is definitely a large anti-umbrella crowd, some of them even wishing umbrellas would become banned at the parks.

The anti-umbrella crowd claims that umbrellas:

  • Could poke other guests in the eye
  • Block people's view at parades
  • Don't help when rain is accompanied by wind
  • Can act as a lightning rod
  • Are a pain the carry all day

To which the pro-umbrella crowd retorts:

  • It's not like I'm swinging the umbrella around
  • I'm very considerate and aware of my surroundings when I use it
  • People with gigantic strollers and "those monstrosities they call backpacks" rank much higher are a much bigger annoyance
  • We hate rain ponchos
  • We don't use huge golf umbrella, we use com best umbrella for disney world

I think an umbrella in a place as crowded as Disney would be cumbersome to use unless you have a specific medical condition that requires you to use it. You will constantly have to watch so as not to bump into others, in addition to carrying it around all day. I think a well designed hat is a better choice if trying to keep your face out of the sun in addition to using sunscreen.

My family will use our sun hats for walking and 1 shared umbrella for standing/sitting. The hat just gets so hot sometimes and the umbrella really helps to feel cooler. Two in our family burn in about an hour of FL sun, even with sunscreen.

This one is 10 bucks... and very small. Used it last week at WDW.

If you just want it for WDW, there are a lot of cheaper options. The Coolibar ones are definitely more expensive. I use mine all of the time in the summer, plus other warm vacations. At the beach, at little league & soccer games. I have my original one from around 8 years ago and it is just starting to feel a little worn, so I got a new one for this summer (and going forward)
