HOW TO FIND PLAYER AND WORLD FILES

Before we begin, I'd like to list two links where you can share your player and world files. This tutorial is basically to complement them.
Now that that's out of the way, here it is: a comprehensive tutorial for finding your player and world files on PC Terraria.
  1. If you're finding a character file, copy C:\Users\%username%\Documents\My Games\Terraria\Players into your PC's file explorer search bar. If you're looking for a world file, copy %USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\Terraria\Worlds into the search bar. This should take you to your player / world file locations.
  2. Remove your player / world from Cloud Save on Terraria if you have it cloud saved. It won't show up in your folder otherwise. Here, you can see my character's file:

Terraria Save Locations: Characters, Worlds, Config, Mods & More

Terraria is a sandbox game in which players are free to set their own objectives, unlocking different areas of content as they progress through the game. There are a number of missions that players can choose to finalize and these are labelled according to their difficulty.

The game was developed by Re-Logic and sets itself in the action-adventure market. Some of the platforms that the game is available on include Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 & 4, Xbox 360, iOS, Android, Windows Phone, Mac OS and Xbox One.

First released on the 16th May 2011 and with fairly positive reviews from players, Terraria has sold over 30 million copies so far. The game has received a review score of 10/10 on Steam and 83% on PC Gamer, with fans speaking highly of its RPG style and content; however, comments have been made on its violent character which has been deemed inappropriate by some for children.

If you are playing the Steam version with an Internet connection, you can just let Steam do all that work for you by enabling cloud saving for your character.

Otherwise, your characters are stored in:

  • Windows:
  • Mac:
  • Linux:

However, if you're using Steam cloud saves, the files will be in a different location.

To copy a character, you will need both the file and the folder that are named like your character. Technically, only the file is necessary, but the folder contains your minimap data.

Note, that is a hidden folder. Use - in your filemanager or in your terminal to see hidden files.



How to Download Your Terraria Server World & Files

If you’d like to play your Terraria world in singleplayer or save a backup locally, you can download the world file directly from your server to your PC. Here’s how to do it step by step.

Save Your Terraria World to Your Computer

  1. Log into your server’s Control Panel and STOP the server.
  2. Click on the “Backups” section, located on the left-hand side of the panel
  3. Click on the “Create backup” button.
  4. Once the Backup is done, click on the “three dots” and click “Download”.
  5. After the download is complete, you can now extract the ZIP file on your own PC.

The world file will be located at the “Saves” directory and have a extension and match the name you originally assigned to the world. You can ignore files ending in — those are backup versions and not needed for normal play.

You’ve now downloaded your Terraria world! You can load this file in singleplayer mode, transfer it to a different server, or simply keep it as a secure backup for the future.
