Katy Perry’s Tour Costume Designer Dishes on ‘Prismatic’ Concert Outfits

When it comes to wildly colorful costumes, few people know how to make a more jaw-dropping remark than Katy Perry. From her “Birthday” music video, which featured five wacky outfit changes, to wild animals roaming around in the jungle-themed “Roar” video, the pop star is never one to disappoint onscreen or onstage.

With her Prismatic world tour currently traveling through Europe (the first show kicked off May 7 in Belfast, Northern Ireland), Perry and her background dancers’ onstage costumes have been as quirky as one would expect — think walking Egyptians and dancing cats. To help bring the singer’s vision to the stage, the tour’s costume designer, Marina Toybina, started conceptualizing and implementing the designs as early as mid-February.

“Once the creative concepts and sketches were approved by Katy, the design process began almost immediately,” Toybina, who also designed for Taylor Swift‘s Red tour, tells Pret-a-Reporter. “

Today marks Katy Perry’s 40th birthday, a milestone that ushers in a new era for the pop icon. Known for her visually stunning music videos and concert looks, Perry has consistently wowed audiences with fashion choices from designers like Fausto Puglisi, Todd Thomas, Moschino, Valentino and The Blonds NY, blending glamour with her unique camp style.

Since her debut album “One of the Boys” in 2009, Perry has traveled the world with four tours, including the “Prismatic Tour,” which grossed more than $204 million from 149 shows.

In the past couple of years, Perry has spent time in Las Vegas with her “Play” residency, which earned over $46.4 million from 80 shows. Last August, Perry was honored with the Vanguard Award at the 2024 MTV VMAs, celebrating her contributions to music and visual arts.

10th May 2014: Katy Perry, Prismatic World Tour

On Saturday I combined two of my favourites, fashion and Katy Perry. The whole Prismatic experience was something truly phenomenal and her outfits were one of the major contributors to this. Unlike her last tour, which was just as fabulous, Katy opted for designer pieces rather than costumes. It wasn't just one eye Katy caught but an array of designers who made bespoke pieces for her world tour. This starlet is touring until December so it was only right that each piece was thoughtful, sassy and powerful and would remain eternally phenomenal. What was even more exciting is that this was only her second location of the whole tour so we were exposed to this amazing show before the rest of the world.

This piece could not have been any more perfect to start the show. As Katy emerged out of what can only be described as a pyramid, she set the tone for the whole night. As well as capturing the intricate detail and elegance this ensemble has, Katy's quirky style was more v

Katy Perry is teasing us. With 10 days to go until her Prismatic World Tour kicks off, she gave her fans a sneak peak at what they can expect from her on stage costumes – and we were impressed. And as the tour gets closer, the costumes keep coming.

She took to Instagram to show off illustrations of two of the dresses she’s set to wear. First up a spot of , no less, a wafting tulle gown with the terribly poetic title, Happiness Is Like A Butterfly. Now her tour has kicked off, see the Valentino gown in action...

Behind Katy Perry’s Costumes – Prismatic World Tour

Katy Perry kicked off her Prismatic World Tour earlier this month. She started her tour in Belfast, Ireland. The singer prepared for her world tour by collaborating with the best designers in the fashion industry. They helped create some glamorous costumes (click here), which is a step up from her California Dreams Tour.

Perry gave fans a sneak peek at her costumes during a 10-day countdown, which started back in April. She posted photos of the designers’ sketches that she’s been seen wearing on stage. Her first post was a ying-yang crop top with a matching hoop skirt. The loud design was created by Johnny Wujek and Marco Marco. She also revealed a smiley face top, skirt and leggings designed by Jeremy Scott for Moschino.

Roberto Cavalli created two designs for the pop singer. One of the designs is complete with prismatic crystals that produce a kaleidoscope effect. The other design is a pastel prismatic motorcycle jacket over a crystallized two-piece outfit.

Perry will also wear her “birthday suit,” but it’s not what you think. This flesh-tone bodysuit is embellished with bir
