Map of Spira (Final Fantasy X) and distances: a study in paradoxes
- Top: in-game pilgrimage map, which appears when party moves from place to place
- Middle: Airship blueprint (?) of Spira [x]
- Bottom (unmarked): scan of Spira map in FFX Ultimania guide
- Bottom (marked): I’ve added labels and the distance markers.
So, continuing on this discussion about the size of Spira which spawned all sorts of great comments. As Chitose reminds us, summonersprivilege worked out that the game of FFX included a minimum of 13 days.
I’d argue that the time we actually watch during gameplay is schematic, much as worldmaps in old FF are schematic.
As you can observe above, different Spira maps aren’t quite the same proportions: when I went to draw my control map for Love Her and Despair, I kinda split the difference between the in-game pilgrimage map and the one in Ultimania (the latter is missing the Baaj archipelago.)
Even before we start getting into numbers, there are suspiciously weird things about this map: notice the giant walking distances between Luca and Djose temple, so that (say) the walk from Luca to the first Travel Agency seems to be the same as the walk across the e

About This Site
I have an odd fondness for maps, even though I get lost rather a lot. Here’s some maps I’ve cobbled together for various Final Fantasy games, some just for fun, others because I wasn’t satisfied with available online maps (or there just weren’t any available).

I haven’t done any FFI maps yet, but there’s some serviceable ones on these two fansites: here and here.

World map (I didn’t draw this one, I just assembled it from about thirty screencaps and labeled it, since the in-game world map has no labels and only shows one tiny section at a time.)

Final Fantasy III
Most of FFIII is fairly straightforward, but I found myself making sketch maps of the endgame dungeons to make sure I didn’t miss any treasures.

Why Final Fantasy X Doesn't Have A World Map
The producer of Final Fantasy Xhas revealed why the game scrapped the overworld map mechanic, despite it appearing in every mainline Final Fantasygame released up to that point. The overworld map in a Final Fantasy game was an easy way of creating an epic scope for adventures, at a time when the hardware couldn't actually depict massive landscapes. Instead, the maps just changed the scale of the locations, while keeping the size of the regular character sprites.
The overworld map has fallen out of favor in recent Final Fantasy games, which have usually gone for lots of interconnected areas. It could be argued that the massive overworld of FF15 was an attempt at creating a realistic world map, even though it was quite barren in comparison to other Final Fantasy overworlds. One comparatively modern entry in the series that kept the overworld map was Final Fantasy Type-0, which was partly due to it debuting on the PSP, and needing to save on resources.

FFX and FFX-2 are available on PS Now. The PlayStation Blog interviewed producer Yoshinori Kitase
Once you obtain the airship, you can go to the cockpit and ask Cid to locate some areas for you on the world map. Once on the world map, move the cursor while seeing how many coordinates you are moving left, right, up and down. Each time you have reached your desired location, press X (cross) and the computer will tell you if there is a location there or not. Sometimes, you may not get the location your looking for immediately so press X (cross) repeatedly in the area you are looking. Below are some of the coordinates to the hidden loactions.
Baaj Temple: (X Coordinate = 11 ~ 16, Y Coordinate = 57 ~ 63) Here you can obtain Lulu's legendary weapon, and the poweful aeon Anima.
Sanubia Desert: (X Coordinate = 12 ~ 16, Y Coordinate = 41 ~ 45) Here you will find a treasure chest which will have a weapon for Tidus known as the Ascalon. The weapon bears a double AP ability which makes it twice as fast for Tidus to obtain sphere levels for the sphere grid.
Besaid Falls: (X Coordinate = 29 ~ 32, Y Coordinate = 73 ~ 76) Here you will find a treasure chest with Kimahri's Dragoon Lance.
Mi'ihen Ruins: (X Coordinate = 33 ~ 36, Y Coordinate = 55 ~ 60) Here you'll find Rikku's weapon, Sona
